April 13 – Scrabble Day

Happy Birthday Alfred Mosher Butts! Mr. Butts was born on April 13, 1899 and in the middle of the Great Depression he developed the game we know and love: SCRABBLE.

The game did not get produced and sold until 1948. Currently Hasbro, Inc. owns the trademark for the name Scrabble and the game is produced in 29 different languages!

Scrabble is played with two to four players. The above word is worth 6 points! Unless the grid it was placed on included a bonus.

Not only is Scrabble a board game, it was also a television game show in 1994. In 2004 Scrabble was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.

Scrabble letters are also popular to use in DIY crafts.

You can celebrate today by playing a round of Scrabble or creating using scrabble tiles. I have created this EXCLUSIVE packet just for my Homeschool Holiday Readers! It is not available on any other site!
