Where does the Hot Dog come from?

The history of the Hot Dog is as mysterious as the actual meat used to make them…. Historians are not even clear how these delicious staples of Backyard BBQs got their name “Hot Dog”.

Two European cities are connected to the origin story of the hot dog… Frankfurt Germany and Vienna Austria. Most people trace the hot dog back to Germany through the common sausage known as the frankfurter. But there is also the Vienna wienerwurst, and although not as desirable among mothers, hot dogs were also called wieners as a result of this town.

If you want to know more about the History of the Hot do you will find all the fascinating facts in our History of the Hot Dog Curriculum.
